Mission & Purpose
The educational mission of the World University is to expose its students to the many contributions in science, philosophy and religion in Eastern and Western cultures. The mission transcends the limited paradigms of race, nationality, gender, age and religion. Further, it wishes to provide a ladder of awareness by which the students may become aware of their own potential possibilities and advance towards the full realization of their latent abilities. The World University seeks to develop in its students ethical standards of morality which will enable them to respond to the changing values of the environment from a global stand-point. The mission of the World University consists of: The Globalization of Consciousness, the Spiritualization of Education and the awakening of man and the realization of one's potentials. The Missions and Objectives of the World University can be summarized as follows:
1. The Globalization of Consciousness:
Through the comparative studies of East-West cultures, the student will be better able to think globally and for the good of the greatest number.
2. The Spiritualization of Education:
A. Through an ethical orientation curriculum.
B. Through the comparative study of the world's great religions, all of which affirm the basic and traditional spiritual values, as well as the non-physical or spiritual nature of man.
C. Through the study of mankind's inherent unity, interconnectedness, and interdependence.
3. The Awakening of Man and the Realization of One's Potentials:
A. Through self-discovery in meditation, yoga and philosophy, and awakening the inherent goodness in man, leading to the practice of loving, caring and tolerance to one and all.
B. Through therapeutic service such as that of the MFT Program.
Furthermore, World University has adopted another mode of teaching which is Distance Learning
The purpose of the educational programs of the World University is to assist students in the process of self-discovery and prepare them for service in the community. Self-discovery is done through conscious exploration of man's physical, emotional, mental and intuitive dimensions. These are addressed in the disciplines of Philosophy, Psychology and Religious Studies. Specifically, the educational programs are designed to provide a broad-based content of instruction for adult learners who exemplify the need for life-long learning in modern society.
To fulfill this purpose, the World University's objectives are to awaken the student's latent Abilities, to stimulate personal creative expression, to develop research skills, to gather the knowledge necessary to fulfill career goals, and to grow in awareness as to how one can contribute service to humanity and to himself as a human being.
Through the alumni, faculty and the students who are already practicing in their chosen fields, the University serves the growing population of Ventura and adjacent counties by providing the needed help in personal, social and intercultural activities. It is here that the comprehensive perspectives of those trained at the University are of special value.
These broad Mission Goals provide direction for identification of the
overall program learning objectives specified for:
a) Each of the Vocational Certificate Programs;
b) the B.A. Degree Program, and
c) the three M.A. Degree Programs.
The learning objectives of the specific programs are as follows:
B.A. Completion Degree in Psychology
The main objective of the B.A. degree program in Psychology is to provide the graduate with access to employment opportunities where the entry level requires a bachelor's degree, as well as entrance into the M.A. program. The B.A. Degree - Psychology has program specialization available for those students desiring to study in-depth the functioning of the human psyche and its relationship to individual/group behavior as developing in contexts of diverse influences. At the World University psychology is approached from its original meaning of soul or psycho-spiritual mind development. As a consequence, "consciousness" and its various states play a major role in many courses of study.
The program's main goals are self-observation, self-understanding, enlightenment and spiritual fulfillment. By the end of the two years of senior level B.A. degree studies, students will have acquired the following understandings, attitudes and skills:
1. Students can distinguish between Psychology as the study of soul consciousness and Psychology as the study of the pathology of the mind.
2. Students can describe and compare the basic characteristics of at least three different Eastern and Western psychological approaches.
3. Students can apply skills of diagnostic assessments in relation to identifying problems of dysfunctional behavior in individuals.
4. Students can apply skills of dream analysis and help individuals to uncover the deeper meanings of their dreams.
5. Students can initiate persons with low self-esteem and/or disruptive behavioral patterns in processes related to integrative and harmonious growth of mind and spirit.
6. Students will reflect attitudes of professional and transpersonal support in working with clients undergoing personal crises related to separation and/or disintegration of the inner self.
7. Students will exhibit attitudes reflecting a willingness to let go of attachments to the ego and embrace growth of soul consciousness.
M.A. Degree in Integral Psychology and Consciousness Studies
The main objective of the M.A. Degree in Psychology is to further broaden the student's perspective in the specific areas mentioned in the B.A. Degree Program in Psychology. In addition, the graduates are given a greater opportunity for research and independent projects. Students graduating from the M.A. Degree Program in Psychology are provided with upward mobility resulting in professional recognition.
1. An understanding and appreciation of the concept of the primacy of consciousness in the psychological process, in contrast to brain-centered epiphenomenalism, behaviorism and reductionist cognitive psychology.
2. An understanding and appreciation of a variety of psychological ideas, theories, and practices from East and West and perspectives on the phenomenology of consciousness, with emphasis on deconditioning our consciousness to realize more unitive, integrative states of awareness and mindfulness.
3. An understanding and appreciation of the difference between scientific proof in the strictest sense and the therapeutic efficacy of positive and meaningful psychological attitudes and beliefs.
4. An awareness of scientific evidence validating the therapeutic efficacy of positive and meaningful psychological attitudes and beliefs,
5. An understanding and appreciation of a variety of therapeutic modalities and techniques.
6. The expansion of global awareness and sensitivity through the study of a variety of perspectives on consciousness and behavior from around the world.
7. An understanding, sensitivity to and personal experience of the therapeutic function of community service for both the individual and the community.
8. The ability to integrate this graduate level study and experience into one's own lifestyle and behavior and the ability to help others experience therapeutic insight, realization and integration.
9. An expanded openness and awareness coupled with a compassionate, partnership oriented engagement with life and the world.
M.A. Degree in Religious Studies (Under development)
The main objective of the M.A. degree in Religious Studies is to prepare the student for mastery of primary religious texts and to specialize in a particular area of interest in this field.
By the end of the Master's level degree studies, the students will have acquired the following understandings, attitudes and skills:
1. Students can read the translated classic texts of several Eastern and Western religions and present a sensitive interpretation of their spiritual message(s).
2. Students can research documents and texts on select spiritual concerns and formulate a meaningful report on their findings.
3. Students can apply techniques such as meditation, yoga, and contemplative prayer to realize transpersonal states of heightened consciousness.
4. Students can identify and assess the contributions of new religions and spiritual movements which have taken root from 1850 onward.
5. Students in the final third of their programs can prepare a talk and/or lead a discussion on topics of spiritual development or moral controversy.
6. Students will show attitudes of care and compassion for those experiencing pain or suffering by willingly participating in a community service program or project.
7. Students will reflect attitudes of unity and wholeness in stating their ideas about life, death and growth of consciousness.
Vocational Certificate Programs
The main objective of the Vocational Certificate Programs is to train the student both in theory and in practice, in a particular line of expertise, as well as assist the student in developing strong and positive moral values.

The faculty members believe that the university provides an educational environment which maximizes one's potential in the achievement of one's academic and personal goals.
The individual is expected to qualify for gainful employment after successful completion of the chosen program.
Spiritual Ministry:
By the end of the 12- month program, students will have acquired the following skills:
1. Students can serve as a minister in a non-denominational church established to celebrate religious service.
2. Students can provide spiritual counseling and guidance to church members.
3. Students can plan and participate in spiritual, educational, social and recreational programs and interact with church members in a friendly, caring yet professional way.
4. Students can, once ordained and after complying with the rules of ordination from a particular ministry/church, perform rituals such as baptisms, marriages, funeral/memorial services and other rituals a minister normally performs.
Thanatology Certificate:
By the end of the nine-month program, the students will have acquired the following skills:
1. Students can provide supportive care and help to persons undergoing the dying process.
2. Students can provide therapeutic assistance (regarding the fear of death) to relatives and friends of terminally ill persons.
3. Students can work with the terminally ill and their relatives/friends, be it in hospices, hospitals and/or funeral homes, as professional care givers.
4. Students can define key aspects of the role of a Thanatologist and describe ways in which they can function both to help terminally ill persons and their relatives/ friends to work through their fear of death.
5. Students will know the new findings about death in the Near-Death-Experience (NDE) and Out-of-the-Body Experience (OOBE) of people that may help in eliminating fear of the next world.
In a similar vein, the various sets of overall program learning objectives identify directions for Instructional Faculty to follow in specifying the anticipated student learning outcomes for each course syllabus. This then is how the World University's broad goals are translated into specific course learning outcomes and how appropriate breadth and depth of content is ultimately realized.
