PSYCHOLOGY 300 - COMPARATIVE PSYCHOLOGY.
An intensive study of the history of psychology, East & West, ancient and modern. Special emphasis is laid on the changing subject matter and methodology of psychological science. In-depth analysis, critique and evaluation of different schools of psychology in the West, such as the Behavioristic School, the Psychoanalytic School, the Humanistic School, Transpersonal School, etc. (Prerequisite Psychology 110)
PSYCHOLOGY 303 - ALTERED STATES OF CONSCIOUSNESS.
An intensive study of the production, characteristics, and functions of altered states of consciousness. Eastern and Western methods and phenomena of altered states of consciousness are studied.
PSYCHOLOGY 304 - PARAPSYCHOLOGY AND APPLIED INTUITION.
An advanced course on paranormal phenomena such as ESP and OOBE (Ecsomatic phenomena). An exploration of methods, techniques, and phenomenology of consciousness. (Prerequisite Psych 223)
PSYCHOLOGY 305 - PHENOMENOLOGY OF CONSCIOUSNESS EAST & WEST.
A comparative study of the data of consciousness as categorized in Eastern and Western psychological studies. An attempt is made to clear and integrate semantical differences in terminologies as well as experiences.
PSYCHOLOGY 307 - COMPARATIVE MEDITATION.
An intensive study of states of consciousness involved in meditation, including a comparison of the same in different types of meditations, such as the Concentrative, the Contemplative, the Eliminative, and the Annihilative. Phenomena experienced during the "interiorization" (pratyahara) of consciousness, such as physical tremors, patterns of light and sound and peak experiences, will be compared.

The nature and processes of the spiritual life. States of consciousness as well as behavior of spiritual people. Methods and techniques of awakening spirituality.
PSYCHOLOGY 313 - PSYCHOLOGY OF THE KUNDALINI.
An introductory course on the Kundalini, with special emphasis on its psychological and physiological phenomenology. The study is exploratory for the beginner and paradigmatic as well as heuristic for the serious aspirant. Discussions cover the spiritual as well as metabolic activity of the kundalini; relationship to altered states of consciousness; correspondences with the glandular system and other physical systems; other physical-physiological aspects of the human chakras and the technology of the kundalini process; relationship to yoga, mysticism, and the spiritual consciousness, such as samadhi, satori, etc; the kundalini as the perfective process, the next step in the evolution of humanity, and the emergence of that new breed of humanity called "Omega Man" by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin and Homo Divinus by Huxley. Also a study of the present state of scientific attitude towards Kundalini and related areas of inner spiritual consciousness.

A study of the nature of the hypnotic state; how it is generated; methods and techniques of production; phenomenology of the state; theories of explanation; introductory practicum.
PSYCHOLOGY 318 - PSYCHOLOGY OF DREAM CONSCIOUSNESS. EAST & WEST.
An in-depth study of Dream Consciousness and a comparative study of Eastern understanding and the Western interpretation of Freud and Jung.
PSYCHOLOGY 321 - PSYCHOLOGY OF CONSCIOUS DYING.
The Psychology of consciousness in the dying process: pre-mortem, intra-mortem and post-mortem. A comparative and analytic study of the states of consciousness at the moment of dying, the reveries and the clear light.
PSYCHOLOGY 326 - PSYCHOLOGY OF ADVANCED PSYCHOTHERAPY.
Meaning, validity, and urgency of psychotherapy. Psychotherapy as a therapeutic umbrella of physical, psychosomatic, and spiritual therapy. General principles, processes, and procedures of the psychotherapeutic methodology.
PSYCHOLOGY 327 - PSYCHOPATHOLOGY, MFT.
This course will focus on the development of abnormal behavior as viewed from many theoretical schools of psychology. Topics will include the study of family systems, theory as it relates to the development of deviant behavior, symptomatology and current treatment modalities.
PSYCHOLOGY 328 - HUMAN SEXUALITY, MFT.
Theoretical and practical issues will be studied in the understanding and treatment of sexual dysfunctions, problems in communication, attitudes, sexual abuse and incest. Homosexuality and male/female sexual developmental roles and stages will also be studied.
PSYCHOLOGY 329 - HUMAN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT, MFT.
Biological, social, emotional and psychological developmental stages in infancy, childhood, adolescence, and adult; hereditary environmental and cultural influences will be explored as they relate to the evolving family structures, moral development, personality, and social behavior.
PSYCHOLOGY 330A - PSYCHOLOGY OF THE INTEGRAL EDUCATION.
An intensive study of the state of consciousness as well as the behavior experienced during the Out-of-the-Body State, involving parallel phenomena in such conditions as traveling clairvoyance, near-death-experiences, projection of consciousness, astral projections, altered states of consciousness, as well as the rich psychological phenomena of the astral world, the Eastern Kama-loka and other eschatological areas.
PSYCHOLOGY 330B - PSYCHOLOGY OF THE BARDO STATE OF CONSCIOUSNESS.
A continuation of Psychology 330A or Psychology of the Ecsomatic State, which is principally the study of OOBE from the standpoint of Western study and research. Psychology of the Bardo State is the study of OOBE from the Eastern Standpoint with great emphasis on the PhoWa process of the Tibetan Book of the Dead (Bardo Thodol) and Kama-Loka of Hindu Eschatology.
PSYCHOLOGY 335 - PSYCHOLOGY OF DE-CONDITIONING AND DE-EGOTIZATION.
A proper sequel to Psychology 306 and Psychology 201 in both of which the principles of consciousness are discussed. In this course methods and techniques of freeing consciousness from its conditioning are explained with the end in view of restoring the congruency between awareness and consciousness.
PSYCHOLOGY 336 - PSYCHOSYNTHESIS.
An in-depth study of techniques in personal and transpersonal psychosynthesis taught in the experience-reflection mode of Roberto Assagioli. Contemporary developments in psychosynthesis.
PSYCHOLOGY 338 - CROSS CULTURAL MORES AND VALUES, MFT.
This course will explore the psychology of the subcultures of blacks, chicanos, women, homosexuals, and the disabled; their development, uniqueness and inter-relatedness. Cultural patterns and behaviors are explored and clinical issues related to these patterns are presented.
PSYCHOLOGY 339 - PROFESSIONAL ETHICS AND LAW, MFT.
Legal and ethical issues as they relate to the professional practice of marriage, family and child counseling will be discussed. The course will also be focused on issues such as confidentiality, licensure, client rights, and professional conduct.
PSYCHOLOGY 341 - THEORIES AND APPLICATIONS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING, MFT.
An introductory course designed to familiarize the student with available measurement instruments.
PSYCHOLOGY 342 - RESEARCH METHODOLOGY IN PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING, MFT.
This course will explore professional research procedures in preparation for the master's thesis.
PSYCHOLOGY 344A - THEORIES OF MARRIAGE, FAMILY AND CHILD THERAPY, MFT.
An introductory course exploring the current therapeutic orientations which apply to marriage and family therapy. This includes the approaches of psychoanalysis, behaviorism, humanism, transpersonal psychology and family systems (Murray Bowen and Virgina Satir).
PSYCHOLOGY 344B - APPLIED TECHNIQUES OF MARRIAGE, FAMILY AND CHILD THERAPY, MFT.
This course addresses particular assessments, diagnosis and treatments (interventions) of premarital, marital, family and child relationship dysfunctions. As a continuation of 344A, it is a refining and application of the students therapy skills.
PSYCHOLOGY 347 - PSYCHOLOGY OF CONSCIOUSNESS AND BEHAVIORISTIC PSYCHOLOGY.
A comparative, critical, evaluative and integrative study of the two most dominant schools of psychology. Cerebrocentric versus psychocentric approaches to the study of man.
PSYCHOLOGY 350 - PSYCHOLOGY OF INTEGRAL EDUCATION.
New Age educational philosophy and psychology, educational methods, processes, and techniques, as well as changes needed to improve, uplift, and spiritualize excessively materialistic programs of education. Imagery, Visualization & NLP. An exploration of current research and uses of imagery & hypnosis in the healing arts and medical profession, including psychoneuroimmunology. Students will also learn valuable uses of age regression techniques to reframe the past as a foundation for future goals and aspirations.
PSYCHOLOGY 353 - PSYCHOLOGY OF COMPARATIVE RELIGION.
A comparative and evaluative study of the psychological approach to the integration and unification of different religions.
PSYCHOLOGY 371 - PSYCHOLOGY OF HUMAN COMMUNICATION, MFT.
An in-depth study of the theoretical and practical communication skills of the various therapy schools, i.e. Rogerian, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, and Behavior therapy. Designed to further the student's counseling skills, interventions, strategies, therapy goals, etc.
PSYCHOLOGY 374A, B, C - SUPERVISED PRACTICUM - FIELD WORK, MFT.
Three 50-hour practicum courses in applied psychotherapeutic techniques, assessment, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of premarital, couple, family and child relationships, including dysfunctions, healthy functioning, health promotion, and illness prevention, in a supervised clinical placement that provides supervised fieldwork experience within the scope of practice of marriage, family and child counselor
PSYCHOLOGY 377 - ALCOHOLISM AND OTHER FORMS OF CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY, MFT.
A comprehensive approach to define addiction. Explanation of drug use, types of addicting drugs and alcohol, synergism, the law, legal drugs, the dysfunctional family, and how to recognize problem areas. Current research findings are presented and student will be acquainted with local help and service programs.
PSYCHOLOGY 379 - PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY, MFT.
The basic principles of psychopharmacology are presented, including the scientific and clinical applications of the psychopharmacological management of mental diseases. The use of psychiatric psychopharmacology in conjunction with psychotherapy is discussed emphasizing referral criteria.
PSYCHOLOGY 381 - C.G. JUNG: THE ARCHETYPES AND THE COLLECTIVE UNCONSCIOUS. An intensive study of the research C.G. Jung as it relates to the phenomena of the conscious, personal unconscious, and the collective unconscious.

Special topic seminars cover material not found elsewhere in the curriculum.
PSYCHOLOGY 317 - INDEPENDENT STUDY/RESEARCH.
A guided independent project or research study in which a student works independently but is advised by a faculty member.
PSYCHOLOGY 398 - MASTER'S THESIS SEMINAR.
A guided study in the proper writing of the Master's thesis. ( 3 classes/9 units).
